Customizing The Quick Access Toolbar

In the last blog entry, I showed how to customize the Ribbon in Microsoft Office.  In this post, I will demonstrate and show you how to customize something call the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT). the QAT  gives you quick access to commonly used features such as the Save, Undo, Redo, and Print Preview.  The QAT can be in two different locations.  One location will be above the Ribbon and the other location will be below the ribbon.

Microsoft Quick Access Toolbar BottomIf you would like to change the placement of the QAT to be above or below the ribbon, just click on the arrow pointing down and it will give you the option to do so.

Microsoft Quick Access Toolbar ShowOnce you select where you would like your QAT to be placed, you can start adding items to it!  To add the actions/commands that you want, in that same drop down menu as above, select the option for More Commands.  This will bring you to the window, below.

Microsoft Quick Access Toolbar OptionsIf you cannot find the command you like, click on the drop down where it says Popular Commands and choose All Commands.  All the commands will be listed in alphabetical order so you can easily find them.  Once you find the command you like, select the command and click on Add.  You can have up to 20 commands on the QAT.  Once you have all the commands that you want, just hit OK in the bottom right hand side of the window and all of them will appear in the QAT.  That’s all to it!  Happy customizing!
