Managed Backup

What if you couldn’t gain access to your office for the next week…or month? Sounds simplistic, but this is a fundamental question law firms must address. DiD

Defense in Depth (also knows as Castle Approach) is an information assurance concept in which multiple layers of security controls are placed through an IT system acting as staggered safety nets. Accellis Technology Group’s approach includes four areas of defense: application security, IT infrastructure security, education and policy enforcement, and continual assessment and improvement.

FINRA

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Inc. (FINRA) is a private corporation that acts as a self-regulatory organization. It is a non-governmental organization that regulates member brokerage firms and exchange markets. HIPPA

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 was enacted by the United States Congress in 1996. The Act consists of five Titles. Title I protects health insurance coverage for workers and families when they change or lose their jobs. Title II requires the establishment of national standards for electronic health care transactions and national identifiers for providers, health insurance plans, and employers. Title III sets guides for pre-tax medical spending accounts. Title IV sets guidelines for group health plan. And Title V governs company-owned life insurance policies. There are privacy, transaction and code sets, security, unique identifiers, and enforcement rules.

INFOSEC

Information Security, sometimes shortened to InfoSec, is the practice of preventing unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, inspection, recording, or destruction of information. It is a general term that can be used regardless of the form of data may take. The chief area of concern for the field is the balanced protection of Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability of data, also known as the CIA Triad while maintaining a focus on efficient policy implementation and no major hampering of organizational productivity. To standardize this discipline, academics and professionals collaborate and seek to set basic guidelines and policies on password, antivirus software, firewall, encryption software, legal liability, and user/administrator training standards.

IRS 1075

Internal Revenue Service Publication 1075 (IRS 1075) provides guidance for US government agencies and their agents that access federal tax information (FTI) to ensure that they use policies, practices, and controls to protect its confidentiality. See Publication 1075 (Rev. 11-2016).

ISO27001

The specification defines a six-part planning process: 1) Define a security policy, 2) Define the scope of the ISMS, 3) Conduct a risk assessment, 4) Manage identified risks, 5) Select control objectives and controls to be implemented, and 6) Prepare a statement of applicability. The specification includes details for documentation, management responsibility, internal audits, continual improvement, and corrective and preventive action.

NIST

The National Institute of Standards and Technology is a measurement standards laboratory and a non-regulatory agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce. NIST’s activities are organized to include Nanoscale Science and Technology, Engineering, Information Technology, Neutron Research, Material Measurement, and Physical Measurement.

PCI

PCI refers to Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and is an information security standard for organizations that handle branded credit cards. This standard is mandated by the card brands and is administered by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council. The standard was created to increase controls around cardholder data to reduce credit card fraud. Validation of compliance is performed annually, either by an external Qualified Security Assessor (QSA), by a firm-specific Internal Security Assessor that creates a Report on Compliance, or by a Self-Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ).

SOC 2

The Trust Service Principles which SOC 2 is based upon are modeled around four broad areas: Policies, Communications, Procedures, and Monitoring. Each of the principles has defined criteria (controls) which must be met to demonstrate adherence to the principles and produce an unqualified opinion (no significant exceptions found during your audit).
